WhatsDat button: find out what is in a picture

You have a photo of something you cannot name — a bird, an insect, a plant, an object — or of writing in another language.

Before you start

  • You are signed in

Steps

  1. Tap AI Agent in the bar at the bottom of the screen.

The page opens on your conversations. Under + New conversation is a second button, 🔍 WhatsDat — take a photo.

  2. Tap 🔍 WhatsDat — take a photo.

Your camera opens. On a computer the button says 🔍 WhatsDat — choose a photo and opens a file chooser instead.

  3. Take the photo.

A new conversation with WhatsDat opens with your photo in it, and the answer arrives by itself: you do not tap Send. The photo is also kept in My Photos. You can delete it there afterwards.

  4. To ask a question with the picture, or to use a picture you already have on a phone: open the list under DatsAgent, choose WhatsDat — Identifies pictures, tap + New conversation, then tap the picture button beside the message box.

A photo added this way waits for Send, so you can type a question first, such as what a plant needs or what a sign is telling you to do.

You will know it worked when

WhatsDat names the thing first, then says how sure it is and what it went by — for a living thing, the common name, the scientific name and the features it saw. Writing that is not in English is named by language and given in English. Each photo is its own conversation, listed by the first line of its answer. Ask a follow-up in words if you like, but it answers from what it already said: it does not look at the picture a second time.
