Send one person's mail straight to its own folder
Someone writes to you often — a shop, your bank, one friend — and you want it out of the Inbox without losing it.
Before you start
- You know the address their mail comes from. Any message from them shows it.
Steps
In the mailbox, tap the 📁 button beside the search button.
That is the folder menu. It lists Inbox, Sent, Saved, Trash, Spam and Drafts, and it is where your own folders appear.
At the bottom of the sheet, tap + New folder, type a name and tap Add.
Up to 20 folders, each with a name of its own. You cannot reuse a name DatsMail already uses, like Inbox.
At the top of the same sheet, tap Rules.
Tap + Add rule.
Choose From address is, type the address, and choose your new folder under File into.
The other three choices are From domain is (everything from one company), Subject starts with and Subject contains.
Tap Save rule.
You will know it worked when
The next email from that address appears in your folder instead of the Inbox, and the rule's row in Rules shows it was caught — for example 1 caught · last today. Mail already in your mailbox stays where it is; you can move it yourself with Move to….
If it does not work
- The rule says Never caught anything yet and mail is still in the Inbox.
- Open the rule with Edit and check what it is matching. A rule only looks at mail that arrives AFTER you write it, and the first rule in the list that matches is the one that decides.
- You want the folder gone.
- Open the folder menu, tap ⋯ beside the folder, then Delete folder. Its threads move back to Inbox and its rules are removed — nothing is deleted.
